Can we use this thread to talk about movies? I'd like to talk about movies. Do you guys like movies? I like movies.
The two most recent movies I went to see was The Book of Eli and Shutter Island, both of which were excellent movies.
(I'll put spoilers in tiny text)
So, Book of Eli was a good, powerful movie. I think it's my favorite post-apocalyptic movie to date. But, no one around here can appreciate the movie because they're idiots. Not like the normal type of idiots, but the type of idiots that confuse the words "Anarchist" and "Atheist" because they think they both mean the same thing (no, really, one of them said once "I'm an Anarchist, I don't believe in that God bullshit"). So, they argue that the movie was bad because they thought that it was all about spreading the word of the Bible to make people convert, when really I don't think it was about that at all. Sure, it involves the Bible, and he's trying to save it from the wrong hands, but really I think it's about the power of words more than anything. Words can be used to abuse, control, and trick people, or the same set of words could be used to inspire, teach, and enlighten; and the Bible was the best book to use for the movie because it does indeed have a history of being abused for malicious reasons. Yes yes, it's still the Bible, but it could have easily been the Tora or Qur'an instead, and in the end they even show them saving other religious texts on the shelves. But, yeah, I think it's a good movie, and awesome action to boot. the only thing I didn't like about it was at the VERY end where the girl dresses up the same as Eli to go off on her own mission. I mean, you could have had her go on her own mission WITHOUT having her dress the same as Eli, that's just pushing it.
And Shutter Island was just GREAT. I mean, it starts off a little slow, but it's made me have a newfound respect for Leonardo DeCaprio, and it's probably the only DeCaprio movie I'll ever like (no, I didn't like Titanic). But, yeah, the suspense is great, and it had everything I love in a movie; crazy people, Nazis, and a 1950's setting. It's almost like Fight Club in the end. But, yeah, it has a great twist at the end, and I almost cried when they show how his kids died. My only complaint wasn't even with the movie, it was with the people around me in the theater. See, I saw this at the dollar movies, which is on the stupid side of town with the stupid people. So, some stupid people saw the glaring red "RATED R" (it really was glaring red on the poster) and said "HEY, that seems like a great movie TO TAKE MY KIDS TO GO SEE." Really, they brought their 4 - 5 YEAR OLD CHILDREN TO SEE THIS MOVIE. These people are idiots. They're idiots because A) They took their kids to see this movie B) They didn't have enough sense to leave when their children started CRYING because they showed DEAD BODIES. The little girl really said "I don't like this daddy." when they showed a PILE of DEAD BODIES, and the idiot father thought "That's okay, it's not like she'll be emotionally scarred or have nightmares or anything." She cried EVEN MORE when they showed the dead children floating in the lake. I mean, people think that kids forget that sort of stuff, but this girl seemed genuinely traumatized by seeing the things that they showed in this movie, and the idiot parents were so selfish that they kept her there so that THEY could see this movie themselves. They could have maybe gotten someone to watch the kids so they could see the movie alone, OR they could have rented it and watched it alone. And the guy didn't even understand the movie, which makes it a complete waste of time in the end! He said "I didn't get that movie, man." But, yeah, I was pissed and really said out loud "What kind of idiot would bring their children to see this movie" when we were walking out, and I hope he heard me. Fucking pendejo.
So, yeah, MOVIES. WHAT MOVIES HAVE YOU GUYS SEEN?

Last three movies I've seen in theatres: Iron man 2, Robin Hood, and Date Night.
Iron Man 2: It was all you expected it to be...and then not. RDJr. has the talent to completely turn utter shit comedy into something that millions of girls practically drool over. The "chick superhero" and Samuel L. Jackson were very much rushed, and I think a lot of the action scenes were rushed too. The main villain? Yeah, doesn't even have his great battle scene like we were all promised. Taken out in less than three minutes of the same action you'd get in any other flick. Too much dialogue is what brings the movie down, and in the end it seems like Iron Man is just trying to rekindle with his love interest, which I really don't want to see. I see an action film for the action, which they splayed out way too far apart and tried to put nonsensical filler in.
Robin Hood: Hope you like Irish accents in an England-centric world. Only a couple people in this entire movie sounded, looked, or came off as English. The main French guy looked better suited for Prince of Persia. I had gotten over the accents, but I could not understand what the hell was going on because of misguided talking. The lines made no sense and it looked as though they had to speak 13th century-like for it to seem authentic and for them to look like they had a smidgen of what was going on. There's so much gratuitous flirting and romance in this movie that you wonder how they took a Fox from a Disney movie into RC himself, which could not pass for English even if he tried. This movie is 2 hours and 30 minutes long, which is 2 hours longer than it needed to be. He wasn't even declared an outlaw until the last 2 minutes of the film. I'm not supposed to be friends with Robin hood and see how his life went. Which, by the way, wants to creep in on every scene. Him loosing his father would not change the movie if it was taken out, and I wish it was, so it could probably spare me 30 minutes of falling asleep. I wouldn't recommend this movie to anyone, not even to dear enemies with tickets that have bombs strapped to them. I was more interested in finding the horse's penis to see if it was male or not than to watch RC speak Irish.
Date Night: This movie was right after Robin Hood, and I had snuck in. It was just me and my boyfriend and his cousins watching this, and I can say it was a great time killer. That was basically it, however. The movie had a couple laugh out loud moments where I had to contain myself, but expect to find the same humor you'd think every movie like this has. The best part was the end, because the bloopers would have made this movie a whole lot better if they left them in. I enjoyed Tina Fey and Steve being a movie couple; they worked well, but the supporting actors needed to be polished, especially the stereotypical teenage babysitter that was a waste of, altogether, 10 minute screen time.

I just finished Last House on the Left. Ohgod. I was so scared the entire time. Especially at the rape scene. Those always get to me anyways, but yea. The ending was the best though :3 I think I just got really scared cause I haven't seen a thriller-scary-ish movie in months. It really did it's job. I actually liked the characters for once. They seemed pretty smart. But aside from that I liked Shutter Island and Book of Eli alright. Book of Eli was pretty to look at but the rest kinda threw me off. Shutter Island was good in the Fight Club sorta way to me. I liked the crazy wife. Seems like there sure are a lot of movies involving Nazis lately, huh. Iron Man 2 was kickass, I don't care what any of you say. Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury = perfect. I was so pleased. What's-his-face Russian guy was silly too. Which I like I love how action-y-superhero movies nowadays are so silly, it's how it should be. They're comic books, if you try and make a TOO serious movie it just starts to look silly in the not entertaining way. But then again I'm like a ten year old boy stuck in a teenage girls body. . .

Here's my rant on The Boondock Saints 2:
I just rented (and sent back) Boondock Saints 2 on Netflix.
Here's how it went down:
I pop the movie in the DVD player. Alright. Everything's gravy. I loved the first movie and am hoping this one will at least be decent.
Movie opens...they're...farmers with big bushy beards. Ok, whatever, that's not too bad. Surely the rest of the movie makes up for this half-baked farmer story.
Now...there's a nude bathing sequence for no reason whatsoever and a "we're back" montage. I'm a little irritated at how cliche it is, but I push onwards. Maybe it gets better.
Now we're back in New York and Greenly and the other two cops are main characters with actual dialogue scenes. What the hell is this? We never really cared about these guys. They were just there for Willem Dafoe to shit on in the first movie, that's all. Oh, then the cougar cop shows up and there's a fucking "look at the sexy lady coming towards you" sequence in slo-mo and everything. Then Greenly freshens his breath and I proceed to facepalm.
Greenly and the others do some fucking nervous horny shtick with the lady cop. The woman proceeds to utter the worst line of dialogue I've ever heard in any movie ever: "I'm so smart, I make smart people feel retarded." Then it abruptly cuts away to some other cliche clusterfuck of disappointment.
Ok, fuck this movie. I took it out, sealed it up, and sent it out immediately. About 10 minutes was all I could stand. I'll say it again: FUCK THIS MOVIE.
/rage
(On a lighter note, I did see The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly for the first time recently. Loved it.)

Didn't care for either Book of Eli or Shutter Island.I thought Eli was too cliche with its whole "twist" and came off a little preachy. Shutter Island I had high hopes for but I guessed the twist like 25 minuets in and was kinda let down by it. Iron Man 2 was pretty good for a sequel but just didn't have the heart of the first. I actually liked Robin Hood somewhat but I went in expecting absolutely nothing good from it so that probably worked to its advantage. If anyone is planning on seeing Robin Hood by the way you should know its not at all the story of Robin Hood as we know it but more of an origin story of how he came to be Robin Hood. Best movie I've seen lately is Kick-Ass. The comic had a few better twists, but overall the movie was great. I even loved Nic Cage in it which is saying something.

Saw Battle Royal II last night. Not as good as the first one and tried to hard to justify itself as being a film about fighting for what you believe in bla bla bla.
Can we talk about Avatar for a sec? I think that film is real gay. He literally fucks an alien.

OMG, Lexy changed her avatar!!!!!!
I go to the theatre maybe once a year. Last thing I saw there was avatar, the movie before that was that monster film with motion sickness that got all this viral videos and was talked about on the show a few times. Forgot the name...
The porno theaters in Munich suck so I prefer watching my movies at home. I do that when I'm really bored and out of TV shows to watch. What really pisses me off about recent movies is that they're too fucking long, they're all 2 and a half hours long. Most of it is intro, irrelevant background information and boring dialogue or product placement. Lots of movies could be cut down to one hour and be awesome. And then they even make a trilogy out of it! Can't even get theatrical version of classic movies anymore because now it's all extended directors cut with all the garbage cut back in. It was left out for a reason because the people at the screenings thought the movie was too long and didn't like those scenes!
Maybe I'm just too used to the 22, 43 or 52 (Showtime) minute format of TV shows and the fact that you already know the characters pretty well so they can use that time to tell a full story arc... People are more busy than just 10 years ago because of the economy, so stop wasting out precious free time with boring scenes in movies!

The origin of the story of Robin Hood doesn't make up for the fact that it was a bit lacking and dreadfully played out over too long sequences.
I recently saw Avatar and all I could think of was: "What are those things coming out of its fucking hair?!" Like everyone says, the graphics mind fuck you. Avatar was fucking longer than Robin Hood and I didn't fall asleep, so take that with a grain of salt.

So...is it even worth seeing Robin Hood at all? I trust your judgement on this one.

Shortest way to sum up Shutter Island: If you've played Silent Hill 2, you've seen Shutter Island.

Just watched The Book of Eli. When I first saw the trailer I thought "Oh great another Religious shit bible movie" Watching it now I have no idea how I got that out of it But It was a really really good movie. I agree with Lexi on that. Some people are taking the meaning of this movie way to far. It had a nice message
